For anyone interested in the Cape Clear trip, and a little run through the 'Passage planning' and what is proposed for the Easter Weekend, it is proposed to hold a Zoom chat on Wednesday 9th April.  This is to outline launch details/ trip plans and options for the trip, and to share a bit of the background of whats proposed. The suggestion is still to watch the weather as the date approaches, and we make final call on going down, closer to the weekend, and what date over weekend is best for rowing. I know it's not ideal for many, to have to keep actual rowing day 'floating' for now, but hopefully weather will be kind and we will get to travel out early on Saturday morning 19th April.  The is no urgency to join if you tied up that night, or are familiar with the trip, it's more an introduction to those less familiar with it, and a few photos for reminder of a few of the previous lovely trips!

Crew lists still being assembled. No panic!

Topics we hope to run through briefly:

  1. Weather conditions and forecast.
  2. Preparation: Routing and chart-work.
  3. Limitations of the boats, and crews.
  4. Tides and tidal streams.
  5. Local conditions, and navigational dangers.
  6. Contingency plans, and exit strategies.
  7. Safety equipment and protocols.
  8. Staying together - teamwork.
  9. Support/ backup. Shore contact.
  10. Communications.

You are invited to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Apologies for short notice!

Due to popular demand, we are moving the Cape Row - Passage Planning Online chat until tomorrow night (Thursday 10th) instead.  Clashing with Wednesday row and a few other things tonight.

Will share a new link shortly.  Anyone interested, even if not planning to row this trip is welcome.

Sorry.

Cape Clear Update: 10th April.

The long term weather outlook is not so bad as of today!  With any luck we will be good to row on Saturday 19th as planned.

Don't be too concerned about 100% committing to joining the trip until mid week next week, when we should be able at same time to confirm go or no!  We have four boats tentatively filled at the moment, with a few uncertain still.  Loading will happen on Thursday night all going well.

If all goes well: this is the plan for now:

Baltimore:  Saturday 19th April 2025

26k Row - approx.

HW Cobh - 15mins ( Cobh 09.49 - 3.4 m range)

HW Baltimore:  09.34

LW Baltimore:   16.03

Depart Cork City        - 7.30am

Arrive Baltimore        -  9am

Launch and depart.   -  9.30am At slip in Baltimore.

Provisional Route:

Arrive Cape Clear:   11.30 - 12.00 (re-grouping on the way)

Depart Cape Clear.    - 15.30. (Just before low tide)

Possibly stopping East Skeam for brief break.

Return Baltimore        - 1800. (returning on rising tide)

Grub in Baltimore and on the road!

For those who have not been there before, slip in Baltimore:

Will keep all posted. 😊
