Interested in trying your hand at rowing a traditional Irish currach (hand-crafted in Cork)?

We meet at Shandon Boat Club on the Marina every Saturday morning at 10.30am.

Please note:

  • Spaces are available on a first come, first served basis
  • Public Rows may be canceled occasionally due to weather conditions or if other events are taking place on the River or within the club, you can check the latest information on the Forum or in our Facebook Group
  • In the Summer months there may be limited spaces available due to reduced participation from experienced members due to holidays and other rowing events.
  • There is some manual lifting of boats & equipment involved, please speak to a Duty Captain on arrival if you have any concerns about your ability to assist with lifting for any reason.

Day membership is €10 – this includes insurance, tuition and a life jacket (Annual membership is only €100, with concessions for students/unwaged – Membership form available here). All are welcome – no rowing or swimming experience is necessary, just a sense of adventure and a sense of humour – sin tábhachtach!

Newcomers and beginners are allocated a ‘captain’ and an experienced crew who will look after them for the duration of the trip.

Wear comfortable clothing (outdoors or sporty), consider gloves (fingerless cycling or weights gloves are good), a rain jacket, a bottle of water, and some change for that all-important coffee-break!

It is a perfect opportunity try out a currach, to get out on the the river Lee, to see Cork from the water, to and meet a random selection of people, united only by their love of rowing and fun!
