In order to spread the load and encourage more to get involved in working on the boats maintenance, we would be hoping to expand this support group a bit. The maintenance crew of last few years have been doing a great job holding the boats together, and have been taking on much of this worthwhile job that can go unnoticed, with limited support from the broader membership. There have been plenty of expressions of interest from other members, and this is a great opportunity to share the basic skills. Getting involved in the maintenance also help foster the sense of ownership and pride in the boats among the wider membership. It could be a fantastic opportunity to teach new skills encourage the camaraderie around same, and create a stronger sense of community around the boats.
We would also urge rowers to point out any issues they spot, that pop up from time to time, to the captain on duty, club captain, or to post here on the forum, and we can all try to ensure matters are addressed. Also if a boat is out of action while awaiting attention, we would suggest you put up a message here as well, to let people know, and we will all be aware that work is required, and to beware not to use until dealt with.
This work inevitably increases as the Ocean to City training adds to the pressures and also as trips away hopefully start becoming more regular again soon.
Meitheal Mara have agreed to allow some maintenance works to be carried out, subject to available space etc, in the reliance building, where we might be able to carry out a few repairs Meitheal’s/ sessions, potentially on the same nights as the Fionbarra team are working. If more significant works might be needed to some of the boats, the Meitheal Mara team are in an out of the Reliance Building, and subject to workshop demands, we might be able to get more support as required, and as available, from the MM team for any bigger jobs. Meitheal Mara’s input has always been invaluable and we should certainly support their efforts wherever we can.
Hello everyone,
I am available to contribute to the boats maintenance, count me in! Where can I find all the information about the gatherings, location, time, etc? In case it isn't available yet, I will be on the lookout for further instructions.
Until then, see you on the water ;)
Hi Oisin,
Count me in, i would like to get involved and maybe a sociable coffee(pint) afterwards.
Hi all, love to join. Have dubious sewing skills that may suffice.
All good. Have a good few more names interested in assisting as well. 👍
Thanks all for the offers of support and interest in getting involved in boat works! It looks like we have a team of 10-15 volunteers ready for action. We are making arrangements with MM for access to Reliance building hopefully to do some projects under cover. Any boat or equipment issues that are identified, feel free to pass on any here or direct to Commitee via Donie, who might try to prioritise works. There is a growing list of maintenance issues, and a variety of projects ahead, so no shortage of work to be done. Captain Donna will guide on prioritisation of works, but we do have a few in line for bigger jobs and needing MM support!
Light maintenance /repair carried out tuesday 04/03 on three boats. This should help to prevent injuries while handling.Donal.
@daisy - Thats great. We chatted at Committee meeting last night about either tagging any boats that should not be used while awaiting works, or moving them to New site, to keep healthy boats within reach of slip. A list of projects is being assembled and reviewing priority works at moment as well. Working on some logistics at moment, and will share here once clear. 😊

THIS week maintenance and repair work was carried out on a number of boats at the club , this was necessary at short notice to have them ready for the St.Patrick's Day activities.I would like to take this opportunity to assure club members who have offered to help with ongoing maintenance and upkeep of our boats that after this holiday weekend you will be notified regarding planned work on the Forum .This will be organized through the club captain and committee with the exception of emergency issues.Regards Donal.
Lovely to see ten boats out today, and fleet of three hand racers on water as well. 😊
At the moment we have two boats in the Reliance building,as tomorrows club row has been cancelled it is proposed to do some maintenance work on the boats.Anyone available to help is welcome to come along at eleven a.m. for a hour or two.Regards Donal.
Repair work carried out on the two boats in the Reliance building,we would like to take this opportunity to thank club members for their attendance and help today.Regards Donal.
Ron Dubh has fist coat of a lovely paint job. Second coat in coming days, then a boat swap will be arranged to bring up next paint Job! Thanks To Meitheal Mara for facilitating access to Reliance building. NC tucked away in inside corner.
Might get in tomorrow or Tuesday evening for second coat. Product recommends one day before overcoating and three days drying before being sent back into the wild! We will try to get one or two through @ week. Good to have second trailer in Shandon too to allow a few bigger projects to be brought to MM once we have thumbs up from Seamus and team. Challenging week ahead for poor Cathy and Meitheal Mara.
