Hi, thank you for the update! I am still interested if it is a sunday row.
Alex
As of this morning, looks like we are good to go for Easter Sunday 20th. 👍
Winds light and also light the night before, so sea state should be very reasonable. Just need to get back before the rain that might be coming in towards end of the day. ( Have change of clothes in Car!!)
Projected route: Unlikely we will want to stop in Skeams on way home this year, unless rain pushes on.
Boat loading etc:
- Need to grab a few people on Saturday morning, maybe at 10.15am in Reliance Building if anyone is enroute to Shandon for row, to lift Rinceor Na Greinne onto trailer over Dluth Taca, already on trailer, both freshly painted and ready for sea. 15mins max.
- Meet at Shandon after Saturday row and throw Magic Brat and Ron Dubh (TBC) onto second trailer down there.
Launch plans etc for the day below:
If you have not been there before, it takes about 1.5hrs (early Sunday morning) to get down to Baltimore. We would hope to meet on the slip at Baltimore before 9.30am with a view to getting on water at 10am. Grab what you need from shops tomorrow, and we will lunch in one of the Island hostelries for lunch.
Meeting point in Baltimore if anyone has not been there before is at slip: Parking normally easy to get close by. Barring any unanticipated issues, the boats should be there at top of slip when you get there, awaiting speedy launch.
Don't forget to bring with you:
- Life jacket/ Bouyancy aid.
- Change of gear to leave in car.
- Maybe some spare layer to carry on boat in dry bags?
- Rain gear.
- Water bottle / snacks etc.
- Money for Island stop over!
- Easter eggs!
Jim Malone (second tower!) and I will arrange the boat bits and VHF's.
For anyone who has not got our contact numbers:
Oisin: 086 275 4929
Jim: 085 138 8299

Let's hope the rain moves on and the sun comes out.
Maybe durning the day anyone on list not available, just let us know and anyone who is not on list but still interested, just post here or send message.
Fingers crossed!
If things taking a dramatic turn with weather in meantime we will post here, so keep an eye!
Oisin

Unfortunately I don't know all on the list, and would just remind all that it is an open water rowing (+/- 26km) trip and all joining need to be comfortable that they are up to the challenge. With three crews having steering oars, there is a chance to rotate crews a bit. We do also have the chance to allow anyone who finds the outgoing trip tougher than anticipated, to rotate and do more steering on way back, or another easy option is to jump on the ferry for a one way trip back.
Remember to try to get to Baltimore slip before 9.30am fat the latest. To allow for launch by 10am. (trip down is about 1.5hrs+ from the City) Parking is normally easily available close to slip, along by the old railway station.
There is a settled wind forecast now which is great, but some risk of rain during the trip. This could materialise as fog/ mist potentially, (As happened in 2019!.. burnt off after an hour!) so we will review all before launching.
Time will be tight for crew briefing on the slip, so I would just remind people (particularly if not familiar with this trip or offshore rowing) of the few details again:
- Bring your floatation device with you (I will be bringing a few spares)
- Have towel and a change of clothes in car for when we get back!
- Bring some rain wear for the row, even if in drybag in boat.
- Bring water bottle with you, best to fill at home before leaving!
- Any snacks/bites you might want to recharge enroute.
- Easter Egg! 😊
If its a bit damp/ cold when we are on island, there are two very friendly hostelries, very close to pier where we can be fed and looked after! It would be nice to support them, but if you prefer bring a sandwich.. its up to you. Bear in mind, we will be on the Island for a few hours, to wait for tide, which helps bring us out there, to slacken and then turn to bring us home. There are lovely walks and plenty to see. Maybe even swim for the tough ones!
See you all in Baltimore.
Looking forward to lovely row. 👍

@oisin I'm out of action the last few weeks with wrist issues so won't be able to go unfortunately. Sorry it's taken me ages to reply I tried a few times to navigate the forum and find the reply button!!! 🙈 Have a great day ye lucky ducks . Ruth
Hi everyone,
Huge thanks Oisín and Jim for organising and to all of you for the lovely day, it was wonderfull.(and thanks to the dolfins for the nice visit, as if they are probably not yet registered on the forum)
Great to be out on the water with you all!
By the way, do you know what the plan is for unloading the boats? Happy to help if needed.
Thanks again and see you soon!
Alex
Lovely trip, thanks all captains and mighty rowers for making it happen. Thanks to Colin for being super shore contact and Referee - great support from the office desk at home! 🙂 👍 Really enjoyed the row and the company. Was thinking maybe unload this evening (7.30?) when Marina is less busy? I am hoping to put some more sealant on the stitched seams in Ron Dubh, which spent the night under cover in Reliance. Once I put it on, wont take more than an hour to set hopefully, and might improve the bit of leak still there. A few of the low res (for forum) images below. ❤️
