As issues are spotted with boats, it would be very useful if people identify them here on Forum.  It would also be useful to have a small bit of background.

We know for example that Ron Dubh had a few coats of paint added in last few weeks, and went back down, but seems she still has some water ingress. It is very useful to know if an issue like this arises, and a few have passed it on, but also handy to try to spot issue in more detail if you can, ie.. to try to see what the source might be. It would appear the 'seams' on Ron Dubh, are potentially sources of leaking as opposed to the overall lovely coat of finish on tar!  We will try to address this by adding some sealant to these seams on site in coming days.

- If you spot pebbles under skin in bottom of boats, this can be easier to address with boat afloat, and there are some tested techniques to slide pebbles out of where they are trapped!

- We may try to introduce a form of IN NEED OF TLC/ DO NOT USE tag for boats not fit for use, that are on tressles, to avoid people inadvertently using boats with a (not commonly) known unresolved issue.  Ieally thse could be relocated to new site treeless to avoid confusion.

- I think we need to consider options for dowel storage on boats as shoving them inside frame is stressing the skins!  Magic Brat below

We are also aware the launching of the boats is taking a toll on the hulls and we are looking at new options that might help here too.

Log issues that arise here on forum if you can, even with a picture of specific issues you spot.  If you can address issues easily on site please do. The boats are out much more than they used to and it will take ongoing toll.

Some known issues:

- We have been notified that there is a loose dowel on Fainleog

- Some attention needed to Magic Brat also

- Hoping to have Muireann back on water next week.

- Dumhan Alla, is in MM behind some backlog of works there.

- Bad Nua in need of urgent TLC but backlog clearance in MM awaited.  Might have to paint her and do a patch job in meantime if stuck for boats.

- Rinceor Na Greine in PP and leaking - needs to come to Reliance for job.

- Dluth Taca in PP and leaking - needs to come to Reliance for job.

We might try to get training row crews this Sunday, to get trailer to PP if possible and lift one or two (Rinceor Na Greinne maybe) and Dluth Taca onto trailer and get to town?  Any more towers out there able to assist?

We are short of healthy boats for trips away, not to mention weekly rows, so need to keep the momentum going. 👍

Thanks again for all volunteer assistance to date. 🙂

O

Oisín,

If it helps, I can collect the trailer at SBC tomorrow (Thurs) morning and bring it to PP on Friday morning, assuming the MMR goes ahead there, and if not, over the weekend. Once loaded with the boat(s) I can also bring it back to SBC or Reliance whenever suits.

Colm,  that would be great. I was thinking if weather holds, we might try to get the one that's more healthy ( cant remember which it is) actually painted in situ, and just bring up the one with some gunwhale repairs needed, and do her indoors?

We might chat before weekend.  👍  O

Hi Guys, I'm afraid it appears that a pebble has worked it's way underneath a lat and the skin of the newly refurbished 4 hand racer. It has only been on the water once, on a Saturday row, so this seems to be the origin for it.

Thanks John,  We will find a clever way to encourage it back out again!  It does happen from time to time inevitably. Main thing when this happens, is to try make sure not to rest boat on the sharp point!  We will take closer look next time she is down and potentially on water, when the load is spread and one can climb into boat for closer look, and poke around!

@colm-tyers Hi Colm.... I was in Reliance today and picked up the trailer.  Now in PP.  I hope you did not have a wasted journey.

Reminder...the permission to use PP specifically excludes maintenance. In the past we have taken boats down the road a bit to a gate and painted them on the trailer

@jack-okeeffe No problem. Hopefully we get the two boats to town and deal with under cover.  If we did need special exemption for PP, I am sure I could arrange. I am doing work all the time with POC and the harbour master and his team come to Coffee Roasters in St. Lukes for coffee regularly! 😉

@oisincreaghgmail-com Thanks Oisin, Alan and myself had another look at the 4 and racer it now appears that it may not be a pebble after all, but in fact a small nail/ tack that is protruding up a little too high. There seems to be a number of them, but there is one in particular which may cause problems going forward.  The other's are less noticeable or above the water line. If you could advise when you get a chance.

I have, on behalf of Frank O'Neill, left a tool box and contents in the shed at SBC. Frank kindly donated these items for use in the maintenance of our Naomhóga.

Grma, Frank.

@colm-tyers - Colm, thanks for passing on the message.  Frank, what a very generous and thoughtful donation. No doubt these will be great help for the onsite boat projects. GRMA ❤️

@susannewaterford Thanks Suzanne, noted.  We will have to try sealing seams as well. 👍
