Rogaire Dubh should not be used until the knee at thwart number 3 is put back in place

3 hand racers at SBC in need of maintenance

The 3 hand racers are showing signs of wear:

Oar plates loosening off gunwhales

Gunwhales showing signs of decay

Transom showing signs of decay

They get a lof of use and I would suggest they should be scheduled for maintenance by MM.

#1 oar on Domhan Ealla broke on Monday on first stroke at a point where the rubbing strip was screwed into the oar. Not repairable in my view and should be replaced

Ongoing boat maintenance.

We have the loan of a bit of warehouse space Near Marina Market, where we have been doing works for the past week or so. We might pull in a few volunteers shortly to join us, but easy access and cover allows quick in and out. We do have one very significant issue with the paint cracking on the base coat on a good few boats and are exploring solutions. Will keep all posted.

3 hander loose dowel

The three hander on the upper stand by the gate needs no 3 stb dowel securing. I think it is Gabhlán Binne, not sure.

This boat should not be used until the work is done...in a day or two

One of the stringers at the bottom of the boat, below the no 2 thwart, is damaged. Sometimes the impact of rolling the boat over with the trolley still in place when returning it to the shelf can be seen on the stringers as it rolls. One appeared to be snapped last week and when I remembered to check it today (upside-down on the shelf) a piece came off in my hand. It’s about 8 inches long and is now sitting on top of the upturned hull.

I think it’s still usable in the short term. Worth thinking about removing the trolley before rolling the 3-hands over to put back on the shelf.

Gabhlan Binne cracked slot for footrest in bow position. I have included 2 photos, one of the problem needing repair and another of a similar repair that was done in a different part of the boat at some point. We left the bit of wood that cracked off in the radio box. The boat is on the first lower stand when you walk in to the site. Thanks so much. Stacy

Boat painting - Ongoing

Boats getting paint job!

Dluth Taca and Rinceor na Greinne, had some painting work done on Sunday after a wash down and some prep on Saturday. They have had a coat of paint overall and partial undercoat to worst areas. Ideally both could do with one more coat if weather holds, if we could leave them on the stands for a few days! Dluth Taca has a fairly significant issue with the original coatings not having been adhered to the skin for whatever reason and is likely to need a bigger job soon, but another coat should see them good to go for another while. (Options being explored!)

Please leave where they are for time being unless really urgently needed, to save having to wash before coating again.

The next two we hope to give same treatment are:

Grainne Mhaol, and Ron Dubh, usable for now but still a bit wet!

Will be getting more paint and will keep posted!

On of the number 4 cleats on Rogaire got damaged when we were putting it back on the stands last night. It has lifted almost fully from the gunwhale but is in one piece. Rogaire is on one of the lower middle stands. GRMA
