Hi all,

The West Clare Currach Club are holding their annual Fundraising Row to Scattery Island again this coming Saturday, the 8th of August. The cost of the row is 20 euros.

The row itself involves rowing from the marina in Kilrush out to Scattery Island where a fun Regatta will also take place. There are prizes and a picnic as part of the regatta. All boats are supplied so no towing is involved.

I'd suggest that those who are interested meet at 8.00 at the club on Saturday morning where people can car pool. And which will also leave people enough time to be at Kilrush Marina for 11.00. Its expected that people will be back at the marina that evening for 5.00. Its a brilliant day out, I'd really recommend going. The Island itself has many monastic ruins and round towers.

For anyone who's interested, if you could sign up below.

Hi there, weather (possibly) and tides have aligned for an attempt on the Blaskets next weekend. Given the short notice and probable difficulty with accomodation it is likely to be a long day drip. Most suitable day of Friday 17/07- Monday 20/07 to increase the option of securing a suitable weather window. On that note the wind forecast is changing daily.

This is a long open sea row and to be eligible participants must have completed an O2C at a minimum.Numbers we can accomodate will be dictated by number of boats we can bring but we expect a max of 20 people (4 x 4 hand with steering oar) subject to to 2 trailers and 2 towers. Please indicate interest here and confirm if you can tow.

The organising committee for this trip are ceannasai Jim Malone and Elaine Winters and referee Colin ODonnell.

The organising committee's decision with regard to suitability for participation in the trip will be final.

Given the expected weather conditions precautions will have to taken by all participants against sun stroke. High factor SPF, hat, suitable clothing, plentifull supply of water.

Hi all 2 dates to keep in mind for August.

First up, The West Clare Currach Club is holding it annual fundraising row to Scattery Island with fun regatta while there on the 8th of August. All boats are supplied on the day, so no towing is involved. 14 of our members went the last time. As usual we will meet at the club to car pool.

More details are to follow nearer the date.

Another great event to keep in mind is a 2 day fun regatta being run by the Carrlingford Currach Club which be will be held on the 29/30th of August. There are a large number of types of race pairings involved and this event is very much aimed at the fun Regatta Rower. Very similar to our own event held last April. The event itself is being held in Warrenpoint Co. Down. With all races from the beach there and with Bar B Que on going all day. Hospitality is second to none.

Lots of local BnB's and camping options available.

Again, more details to follow nearer the date.

For any immediate enquiries about either event please post here.

Rebel Raid 2026.
Inspired by (or maybe because of) last years Raid being entirely reduced to a one day non rowing event - the Rebel Raid High Command has decided that the Rabbit Island rerun will be abandoned. And a new auspicious route is now planned instead - we shall put the ROAR back into Roaring Water Bay - installing fear and trepidation among all who live there - Jeremy Irons - your castle better be well defended!

So this is call to arms, for those who have braved a good Raid before (and survived) or those with a recent Ocean to City medal of honour around the necks. Join us near Ballydehob on Friday July 24th to Sunday July 26th, as we attempt to bring some new islands under our flag.

Weather permitting (as I threaten the Child of Prague), we will depart Cork on the morning of the 24th for two nights of wild camping and three days of rowing. Base camp, will be hidden ashore, deep among the high grasses, the location being top secret til the departure day!

As usual, pack light and we will organise a communal kitchen. Places will be limited by our towing ability - so register your interest and we will allocate places on a first come basis.

Send your name to martin@trasnanadtonnta.com and I will be in touch to confirm your place.

This email will self destruct - eventually.

Hello all,

We have been invited to attend a traditional boat festival in Villefranche-sur-mer on the French Riviera -3 km east of Nice. It runs from Tuesday September 15th until Sunday 20th 2026. This should be a delightful experience with beautiful traditional boats from across the Mediterranean and Atlantic from Cyprus to Ireland, rowing and sailing from Villefranche towards Monaco.

We propose bringing 2 naomhógs on the Cork Roscoff ferry on 12th September returning 22nd September. With 10 crew we estimate that this would cost circa 300eu each. Attendees would then have to budget for flights and accommodation. Guidance on accommodation including hostel option near Nice can be provided to those wishing to participate but camping will not be an option in this area.

To facilitate ferry booking could you please let me know if you are interested in attending by May 20th. A non refundable deposit of 50eu towards the 300eu transport costs will be required by the 20th.

Places will be allocated on a 'first come first served' basis with priority for drivers. In that regard we would welcome volunteer drivers for the circa 15 hours drive from Roscoff to Villefranche and back. Perhaps you would consider driving one way; this could help manage time from work and your expenses.

If more or less than the target of 10 are interested the plan will be reviewed with those interested but the decision of the organisers (Brídín and Ed) on numbers participating will be final.

See attached plan of proposed daily rows.

If interested, please contact me by email Brídín Cannon bidcan@gmail.com

a bientôt
