Hi everyone,

We were approached by Cork Sports Partnership to participate in their outdoor sports campaign from the 15th to the 23rd of August. The Committee have decided that it would be great to be a part of Outdoors Week 2026 and that we would have a normal Saturday morning row/public row, but limit it to the people who book in through CSP as our public rowers for the day. (Booking would be organised by CSP and we would cap participation at a certain number, we would advertise our Saturday row as members only that day on the Forum). This year we will only participate on 15 August.

In order to have enough Captains and Strokes present on the day to provide full or partial spins for participants, we are just trying to get an idea of who might be around that day so we can set an appropriate cap/limit on the number who might book in for the row that day through CSP.

Please respond here if you are around that day and able to help out. Thanks so much!

I intend re-running the "captains" training evening that we held last March. This was very successful at the time and many members were disappointed when they were unable to attend. This could more accurately be described as the theoretical background knowledge that not just captains should know to keep us all safe on the water, it's just more informally referred to as captains training. This particular evening is aimed at all rowers, not just captains. This particular "captains" training evening is only aimed at river rowing, not for captaining on more adventurous trips such as out to the Blaskets for example.

Topics covered include tides, weather, captain admin duties, boats & equipment, onshore contact, how to get help in an emergency, embarkations & stability, COLREGS, boat handling, crew management.

Meitheal Mara have again kindly let us use their facilities in Crosses Green, and I will hold it at 1900 on Monday evening 20th July

Please do sign up below rather than just show up (we need to keep the class size at an appropriate size for the venue)

We have had a busy month (from May to June) both on and off the water as a club and as a Committee! Here’s the latest:

Our CLG meeting was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, and the meeting is rescheduled for later this month.

Our Forum Q&A with Alan Murphy and Ciara McKernan went well for the small number of people who attended. A summary email of important take home messages and troubleshooting tips is forthcoming. Thanks again to Alan and Ciara!

ST is still trying to sort out club email (info@naomhogachorcai.ie) not receiving replies so please continue to use currachs@gmail.com to contact the Committee for now.

We are working on acquiring some storage containers for Paddy’s Point and getting some proper boat stands in place.

We are the proud owners of a new 3 hand racer from Monty O’Leary in the Maharees! The current plan for pick up is the weekend of the Maharees Regatta, 5 July, weather permitting. We have ordered a fourth 3 hand racer from Monty as well so our club will have 4 of the same boats to host regattas and for our club rows in the future.

The two 4-hand naomhogs are under construction at Meitheal Mara so stay tuned for news of their arrival sometime soon.

Please welcome Clare Hayden as MM Liaison on the NC Committee – hooray Clare, we are delighted to have you as part of the Committee!

2 meitheals have happened, one in May and one in June, to help maintain our site. Thanks to all who have participated in caring for the grounds, we couldn’t have done it without you! The club now has a heavy-duty strimmer and a lighter, battery powered strimmer for ground maintenance use, both of which are fantastic. Thanks to Mark Ryan for his help with acquiring some of these tools!

Bat boxes and bird boxes that were acquired several years ago and sitting in the old shed have been stained and placed in trees around our site thanks to John Mitchell and Colm Tyers – thanks lads!

Baltimore Wooden boat fest was a great success with spectacular weather this year. The pilot race certainly lived up to its controversial reputation!

Ocean to City was a great success again this year with thanks to a very long list of people, so long that it had to be a post all of its own and still it couldn’t list everyone. I’m sure you’ll all agree that the Spanish Galleon and the stage area for the finish line and prize giving was the most spectacular ever in the history of O2C.

Apologies for the delay with this update, we're just mere mortals, and VOLUNTEERS!!

Hi there, weather (possibly) and tides have aligned for an attempt on the Blaskets next weekend. Given the short notice and probable difficulty with accomodation it is likely to be a long day drip. Most suitable day of Friday 17/07- Monday 20/07 to increase the option of securing a suitable weather window. On that note the wind forecast is changing daily.

This is a long open sea row and to be eligible participants must have completed an O2C at a minimum.Numbers we can accomodate will be dictated by number of boats we can bring but we expect a max of 20 people (4 x 4 hand with steering oar) subject to to 2 trailers and 2 towers. Please indicate interest here and confirm if you can tow.

The organising committee for this trip are ceannasai Jim Malone and Elaine Winters and referee Colin ODonnell.

The organising committee's decision with regard to suitability for participation in the trip will be final.

Given the expected weather conditions precautions will have to taken by all participants against sun stroke. High factor SPF, hat, suitable clothing, plentifull supply of water.
